Arguably the most sacred of Buddha statues in Thailand, The Emerald Buddha had its home here for 32 years from 1436. Legend claims a high ranking monk found the Buddha in a watermelon which was then taken to install in the Phra That Lampang Luang Temple.
Interesting features and objects to be found here include: Viharn containing a relining Buddha dated to the temple’s founding era; Viharn Luang hall with Buddha statue; Viharn Phrachao Thong Tip, built during the reign of Queen Chamadevi; Mondop in Burmese style; Lanna Museum; and Viharn Lai Kham Suchadaram built by Chiang Saen artisans.
